It is revealed that Chihiro’s amnesia is a side effect of the bus’s temporal loops; every time he disembarks, his existence fades from the memories of those he loves. This curse finally shows its true form at the summit. Ren decides to sacrifice her own memories to anchor Chihiro, breaking the cycle of oblivion. As their hands touch, the scenery outside the window shifts back to a mundane reality. Yet, the resolution is incomplete. The bus engine continues to hum, and the shadowy figure of the 'Driver' still looms. Chihiro regains his past, but the cost is Ren’s memory of their entire journey.
