Zeppeli teaches Jonathan that only life energy as strong as sunlight can kill a vampire. Along the way they meet Zeppeli's master Tonpetty and the Ripple warriors Dire and Straizo, and Tonpetty foresees Zeppeli's death. Dio revives the medieval knights Bruford and Tarkus as zombies and sets them on Jonathan. Bruford, who fights using his own hair, is defeated but recognizes Jonathan's nobility and gives him the sword Luck & Pluck before dying at peace after five centuries. Waiting behind him is the far more brutal Tarkus.
