Josuke turns Highway Star's own nature — its obsession with following the scent of blood — against it, closing out his drawn-out duel with Yuya Fungami. From there the narrative pivots to Kira's side, and the thing lurking in the Kawajiri house turns out to be a cat fused with a plant. Seeing that it can fire compressed bullets of air, Kira feels no fear at all: he sees utility, and begins working out a new method of murder that combines the creature with Killer Queen. His derangement stands out most sharply not in violence but in the calm dinner-table scenes where he plays husband and father. Josuke's side still has no idea that "Kosaku Kawajiri" is the killer, leaving only the reader inside the murderer's daily routine, and Part 4's signature suspense reaches its densest point here.
