Cornered, Koichi finds his answer in Echoes ACT2, planting sound-effect letters that detonate on contact, and the two finally face each other amid spreading flames. When Yukako risks her own life to save him, Koichi discovers he cannot bring himself to hate her. She loses the fight but not her feelings, and from here she becomes an ally who keeps turning up in Morioh's incidents, while Koichi stops being the boy who only gets protected.
